In 1930, Marc SANGNIER, co-founder of the International Youth Hostels Federation (IYHF) opened the first Youth Hostel in France and created the French Youth Hostels League (L.F.A.J.), inspired by the movement born in Germany in 1911, by Richard SHIRMANN.

In 2004, upon the initative of the French Youth Hostels League (L.F.A.J.) the International Union of Youth Hostels located in French speaking Countries (U.I.A.J.P.F.) was created.

Both of them gather numerous Youth Hostels located in France, in the French overseas departments and in several French speaking countries (francophone countries). These Youth Hostels are open to young people, groups and families...

They have always remained faithful to their original goal: offering cheap accomodations all year round, organising sports and/or cultural activities, encouraging young people from all over the world to meet, regardless of race, nationality, political views or religious convictions.

Youth Hostels are friendly places where learning and discovery are always possible for people of all ages.

L.F.A.J. and the U.I.A.J.P.F. will help you to discover new places and new cultures, whether you like the seaside, the countryside or the mountains.

Take your backpacks and join us! You will feel real emotions and the pleasure of sharing.
